Bribie Island Visit
My in-laws are staying with us, and we decided to get out of the house and go somewhere a little different today. They hadn’t been to Bribie Island, which is just off the east coast of Caboolture and has some nice, but quiet, beaches.
It was also an opportunity to take my Buddipole out on its first outing, and to see if the ‘salt water amplifier’ effect really does work. I’d read somewhere that the ‘L’ configuration works best on the beach, and I’ve had the best results on 20m at home so my configuration was set. Sand works well for leveling tripods too
Such a tough place to operate from. Bear in mind that it is late autumn here, and the days are in the mid 20s!
A few good contacts were made:
- 3D2RI (Ringgolds Islands DXpedition in Fiji)
- AF7Y (Dennis in Utah USA)
- K4XV (Tom in Hawaii USA)
- KK4MT (Russ in Opua NZ)
- KD7TOW (Tom in the Marshall Islands)
Other stations were heard strongly from the US and Australia too, but they couldn’t hear me. There was a QSO party contest going on too which helped.
